PENZANCE, CORNWALL
Penzance is a port in Cornwall, England, facing south east onto the English Channel.
Situated in the shelter of the sweeping Mount's Bay, Penzance is bordered to the west by the fishing port of Newlyn and stretches towards the small town of Marazion to the east. The town's location gives it a unique subtropical climate, much warmer then most of the rest of England. Penzance is only 10 miles from Land's End, the town is surrounded by an area of Celtic culture and outstanding natural beauty. The beaches and the sea around Penzance are amongst the cleanest and safest in the country - both for beach activities and for water-sports.
Penzance is currently the principal town on the Penwith peninsula. The National Trust has several properties in the surrounding Penzance.
Penzance is the home of the two main links to the Isles of Scilly, namely a foot passenger ferry service (The Scillonian) and a passenger helicopter service.
Mounts Bay is the island castle of St Michaels Mount while, further around the coast, lies the Minack Theatre set dramatically in the cliffs above the sea.
Every June, for the last 15 years the Golowan festival, including Mazey Eve, Mazey Day and Quay Fair Day, is held throughout the town.
